Competitiveness makes the world go 'round

Piers Beckley has just had some top news. Upon finding out, my first reaction was to offer hearty congratulations.

My second reaction was to be envious and sulk. Yes, I am incredibly mature and selfless, my social worker says so.

My third reaction was to register with Inktip to up my scripts' industry exposure.

I think I'm finally starting to understand this competitiveness-as-motivator mindset that many of my writer buddies have, but which I've never fully grokked. I'm sure my mother wouldn't approve, but as long as it doesn't descend to word processors at dawn...

The triumphant return of shameless self-promotion

I haven't bigged up Mixt Nutz for a while, so here goes. Check out our video sketches here:

On the subject of bigging up, I'll draw your particular attention to two sketches of mine, Thick Recruits

and Hello Suicide

Er, um, ahem. We do apologise for the excessive ego levels of the last few minutes. Please bear with us and your normal humility service should be restored very soon.

Un-drowned?

William Gallagher has this to say about my TV sitcom:

"It's a good idea but it's not there yet, is it?"

But he also has this to say:

"I hope you carry on with this one, I really think you've hit a rich seam."

I'd already bought the bag and the stones and was halfway to the river, cackling with glee at my script's impending watery fate. And now it looks like I can't drown it after all. I never get to have any fun.

Apathy haiku

After a long, heavy group lunch featuring wine and free Amaretto, everyone in the office is having a slow afternoon. My most productive contribution has been this torpor-related haiku:

Develop career
Commune with learned colleagues
I can't be bothered

Anyone else want to try their hand at apathy poetry? Or can't you be asked?
